Erkenwald Campus

Welcome from the Head of Campus

Welcome to Erkenwald Campus, which along with Mayesbrook Park and Seabrook Campuses, is part of Mayesbrook Park School in Barking and Dagenham.

At Erkenwald, we provide education and support for up to 30 students aged 11 to 16 who are struggling to attend mainstream school due to underlying emotional and mental health issues, and require a smaller, more nurturing setting. Where possible, we aim to help them return to mainstream provision or ensure that their post-16 choices are successful and secure. We also provide a Home Tuition Service for students who are too ill to attend school due to physical or mental health issues.

Our mission is to ensure that our students are given the same opportunities as their peers to reach their academic and personal potential. Most of our students have very low attendance when they join us. Many have low self-esteem and self-confidence; others have experienced social exclusion, bullying and disrupted lives at school and/or at home. All require intensive support from both Erkenwald staff and external agencies to grow both academically and personally.

We offer a range of courses for our students with a focus on the core subjects. We expect them to make at least good and, where possible, accelerated progress during their time with us. Our experienced staff challenge them through personalised academic programmes and a variety of inspiring extra-curricular activities to develop their self-esteem and confidence. Students respond well to the calm, inclusive ethos at the campus and build positive, trusting relationship with their peers and staff

Our strength lies in our holistic approach to students’ well-being; services such as Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, our Special Educational Needs and Disability team, educational psychology services, our safeguarding team and on-site Family Support Professional can all be called upon to work together to support our young people and their families.

Erkenwald Campus is a very special place. The staff and I work tirelessly to provide a safe and healing environment, and to empower our students to re-engage with their education and grow their self-confidence to meet life’s challenges and opportunities – now and in the future.
