Students from both Mayesbrook and Erkenwald campuses recently visited Westminster Abbey. They were given a guided tour and were granted special access to a shrine, not open to the public, of St Edward the Confessor, who suffered for his faith by resisting the temptations of the world.
Abbey staff commented on the behaviour of the students, saying that they were very impressed with their level of maturity and respect they had for the day-to-day running of the church. As well as taking part in the tour, students were also given a lesson on British values.
Since the trip students have been applying what they learnt in their PSHE lessons as well as talking to fellow students about the Abbey’s place in what we now know as British Values.
